Quick Review

  1. Using your favorite VNC viewer, connect to alpha.pepsi.lbto.org:1
  2. Start up the instrument interface (if not already open, type pepsi in any terminal window) and make sure the LBT is selected in the Control Interface. Click POL if the polarimeter is going to be used.
  3. Select the desired dated program from the Tables menu.
  4. At the start of the night, “Engage” the desired telescope side(s) to open the PEPSI hatch and prepare the instrument for observing.  This should be done in advance of the first preset.
  5. Just after the first preset has been sent, start the PEPSI guiders via the Guider radio button for the desired telescope side(s).
  6. Send Preset:
    1. From the Observing Programmes GUI, select the desired target.  Instrument config can be verified in the “Edit Observing Blocks” and Target Visibility can be verified in the Target Visibility GUI.
    2. Send to the Telescope (PEPSI LBT GUI).  Sending to the telescope  will reconfigure the instrument but will not slew the telescope.
    3. Click Preset to move to the target
    4. Verify field if necessary.  Once Guiding and WFSing “OK” as shown in the PEPSI LBT GUI, start the exposure.
  7. Check SNR of output images.
  8. End of night: Run PEPSI calibrations from Observing Programs GUI, otherwise make sure “Engage” is unchecked. For PEPSI-POL, turn Cal-fiber to “ON” position, and pause readout of the fiber viewing camera (4 checkboxes, SX-O, SX-E, DX-O, DX-E). Don’t forget to print PEPSI logs.
